The Inaugural #ArtDrop
Wow, an official Blog post! What has this website come to? What’s that, you say it’s probably going to be pandering to personal projects and opinions bordering on the edge of humor but not quite reaching that goal? Well, yes, yes it will. At least this first one. So, without further ado… the pandering.
One thing I’m very good at is becoming aware of things right after it is no longer cool to be aware of them, or after a big event that would have been super rad to be a part of. That hasn’t really stopped me from engaging, it’s just continued to lend itself to me getting spanked like the noob-goober (noober?) that I am.
The most recent cool I’ve started to jump on to is called Art Drops. Those of you who live near large cities may be aware of this kind of guerrilla method of getting your art out into the world, and building a following in the process, but for the rest of us who live in places like Southwest Florida, here’s a quick summary of the idea. Popularized by Erik Wahl, Art Drops are a kind of a scavenger hunt for pieces of art. Take anything you’ve made, give it up to the universe, and tell peeps where they can find it if they want it. It’s a pretty great idea, and it’s starting to catch steam.
By “starting to catch steam” I mean that I’ve gone ahead and thrown my hat into the ring. This weekend I dropped this bad boy off in Boca Raton (click it for biggens)
and by the time I came back from dinner it was already gone. Maybe by some person who liked moderately sized sketches for the low, low price of free, or maybe it was a lonely squirrel looking for a protector (I’m down with either), all I know is that it’s definitely something that I want to keep doing.
So, if you’re interested in some super sweet art (and why the hulk wouldn’t you be?), then be sure to follow me on twitsters and facebrok for information about how you can be a part of the next one.
(Hint: they will almost always be dropped on Saturdays, and hopefully have more identifying features as to their locations from here on out)
